As a result of the user post satisfaction survey VTrans
conducted in early 2016, VTrans IT has spent the last several months updating
and redesigning the Crash Data Public Query Tool. In order to implement
the many requests, it was necessary to redesign the tool. The new version
is set to replace the old version on April 17th between 10am and
10:30am. It will not be available during that period!
The redesigned version of the
Public Crash Query Tool has a new feel to it so we have outlined some of the
key changes below.
MAP
The number of base maps were
increased from three to twelve and two new themes, Surface Condition and
Collision Direction (e.g. rear-end, right angle and so on), were added. A new
layer feature is now available and users can now display town lines and mile
points as well as displaying a heatmap.
QUERY BUILDER
The query builder was improved
by providing searchable options and by adding several new parameters such as
impairment, animal, involving, weather, direction of collision and time.
Efforts to provide actual road names were also made.
TABLE
The table was optimized for
legibility and the number of rows that are display in default view was
increase. Vertical/horizontal layout modes to better accommodate North/South
route viewing are now available.
REPORTING
Reporting and data extraction
was simplified and an Extract Data report that allows data to be downloaded as
an Excel Table was added.
DOCUMENTATION
The help documentation was
simplified to a single "Help" pane and a “Tour” is now available for
the first time user.
MOBILE EXPERIENCE
Users should notice a
significant improvement when using this tool on a mobile device.
